Hello Friends! Please know that ZANi customers can park in the lot next to Beaver Street Brewery as this lot is designated parking for ZANI as well. We are looking forward to getting our street parking back soon and will keep you posted. We’re excited about the express bus line being constructed on the corner of Beaver Street and Phoenix Avenue and are certain that this will be a great asset to Downtown. Both southbound lanes of Beaver Street are open to traffic, and there’s ample parking available in the two lots on Phoenix Avenue adjacent to the Mountain Line bus depot across from Mike’s Pike.

A brand new sidewalk has been constructed on the North side of the historic Route 66 bridge, so for the first time since it was built in 1937, there will be an easy pedestrian walkway on that side of the street, from Beaver to Mike’s Pike.

Did you know that ZANI sits atop the 1937 bridge on the original U.S. Route 66 road through historic downtown Flagstaff, Arizona? Well, you do now. That’s right. A number of years back, the powers that be decided to change the name of Sante Fe Avenue to Route 66, even though a fair-sized chunk of that street never was a part of Route 66. The original road winds from east of town, through the juncture of Milton Avenue and Old Route 66, then heads up Mike’s Pike, swings East down Phoenix Avenue, then joins what was later named Sante Fe Avenue. So if you’d like to stroll down an actual stretch of the Mother Road, follow those streets and enjoy historic motor hotels like The Motel Du Beau, Sierra Vista Motel and The Downtowner. Check out the 1937 bridge and stop in to say “Hi” at ZANI, 107 West Phoenix Street.

We’ve carried Buddha Boards for a number of years now. A perennial favorite, this simple device allows you to get your zen on using plain water. (We recommend that you use distilled water so that your Buddha Board doesn’t develop mineral deposits over time.) You can try out the “virtual” version at their website. The Buddha Board makes an excellent gift for kids, artists, office workers stuck in cubicles, and bedridden friends, to name a few.

One night during First Friday Art Walk, Elizabeth was inspired to do a quick painting on our display Buddha Board. She walked away and I snapped this phone pic of her drawing, which had changed as the water ran down the surface of the board. She insists that she doesn’t draw (she’s a ceramic artist), but I feel that this Buddha Board sumi-E encapsulates her mood at the time, with the Schultz Fire very much on her mind.
